Introducing The Observatory – Connecting and engaging voters in Wisconsin and beyond

On behalf of Lucas Graves, the 16 students in Michael Wagner’s J475 course and our partners at WCIJ, SJMC is delighted to introduce The Observatory

The Observatory is a fact-checking and explanatory journalism site is funded by the Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Grant. Students are currently fact-checking lawmakers and candidates for the state assembly and state senate in Wisconsin’s most competitive races, US senate candidates in competitive races and the two major party candidates for president. Once the election ends, they will turn to producing more explanatory pieces about Wisconsin politics until the end of the semester and broaden our fact-checking focus to other politicians around the state.

SJMC journalism students who would like to write for The Observatory, as fact-checkers or explainers, can contact Professors Wagner (mwagner8@wisc.edu) or Graves (lucas.graves@wisc.edu).
