Shawnika Hull Elected to ICA’s Mass Communication Division

Professor Shawnika Hull was elected to serve as Secretary of the Mass Communication Division of the International Communication Association beginning in May 2014. The Secretary of the Mass Communication Division, which boasts over 1,000 members, manages information dissemination about calls for papers, faculty searches, pre-conferences and other professional opportunities. Secretary is an elected position and Mass Communications is one of the largest divisions in the flagship organization. In this two-year position, she will also manage business meetings, the minutes at annual conferences, assist the Chairperson as needed, and prepare a written report of the annual business meeting. The mass communication division, which sponsors the Kyoon Hur Dissertation Award, focuses on the effects of mass mediated communication and the processes through which these effects occur. The division is focused heavily on the development of theory and the implications of mass communication research for policy.
