Tasks and pay

Interns will work a flexible, 35-hour per week schedule and will earn $12.00 per hour.  The internships will start Tuesday, May 31 and end Friday, August 19.  The week of July 3 will be unpaid time off.

The interns will research and analyze business problems of current and potential customers, find solutions to those problems using The Daily Cardinal’s digital and print media capabilities, prospect for new customers, develop presentations, and sell those solutions to customers.  You will have the opportunity to build relationships with campus area and city-wide businesses and not-for-profit organizations and engage in other business-related activities as necessary.

Interns will have the unique opportunity to learn directly from CEOs and other senior business leaders from both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations from a variety of fields.

About The Daily Cardinal

The Daily Cardinal was founded in 1892 as an independent student newspaper, making it the sixth college newspaper to be launched in the nation.  In 1892 the rules of basketball were published for the first time, and The Nutcracker Suite made its debut. The Cardinal is totally student run with oversight from a board of both students and volunteer professionals.

The Cardinal is self-supporting through advertising sales and philanthropy primarily provided by the Daily Cardinal Alumni Association.  There are approximately 8,000 Cardinal alumni that provide networking and career mentoring for the student staff.

While The Daily Cardinal is the official student newspaper of UW-Madison, it is structured as an independent, charitable not-for-profit organization whose mission is education.  It is not structurally part of, and receives no subsidies from, the university.

Cardinal alumni have a strong record of success in business, not-for-profit organizations, education and government.  Cardinal Alumni account for 21 of UW-Madison’s 27 Pulitzer Prizes (and all three of Ohio State’s Pulitzer Prizes!).  Cardinal alumni have also earned more than 100 Emmys.

This internship offers you the opportunity to join our team, take advantage of our alumni network, and learn marketable real-world skills.

Strong preference will be given to those who are serious about elevating their sales, advertising, and leadership skills to a professional level.  Applicants must be willing and able to work the entire period of the internship.
