Credit Union National Association is seeking an Assistant Editor to contribute creative, collaborative content for the nation’s largest credit union trade association. This is an integral role that will assist the team with a variety of publications including Credit Union Magazine, CUNA News website, newsletters, podcasts, and more. The Assistant Editor will work side by side with writers, editors, designers, and digital specialists to write, copy edit, research, and produce print and online content for CUNA’s omnichannel business-to-business publications. This job requires high attention to detail, the ability to juggle numerous deadlines, and excellent time management skills.
Writing and production
-Contributes to all publications—online, digital, and print—that CUNA Publishing produces.
-Researches, plans, develops, edits, and writes content on assigned topics for CUNA Publishing’s print and online products
-Posts content to the website via content management system and copy edits print magazine content in a specialized editing program.
-Writes copy and assists in producing onsite coverage of CUNA’s key conferences – attending either in person or virtually
-Contributes to CUNA News and Credit Union Magazine social media presence
-Interviews subjects and records podcasts
Operations & administrative support to the publisher
-Provides operational support to the publisher and to the publishing team overall, which may include tracking/oversight of statements of work (SOWs) and/or independent contractor agreements (ICAs) for freelancers; nominations for both Rock Stars and Heroes campaigns; assistance in creating the production deadline calendar, which includes print, web, and ads for all products.
-Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, English or related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
-At least 2 years of similar work or related work experience writing and editing news and feature styles and/or proofreading and/or online publishing for a formal periodical publication, and/or online publishing.
-Demonstrated success with both copy editing and writing.
-News reporting and/or storytelling nature in style in writing and reporting.
-Must be familiar with Associated Press style guide.
-Audio reporting/podcasting experience preferred.
-Digital videography/photography experience.
-Experience with spreadsheets, using the help function, movement, and function keys, entering data, formatting, column widths, adding/deleting, uses undo, copying and moving data, and working with blocks and printing.
-Intermediate experience with decimals, percentages, and fractions.
-Experience with online proofreading software and research-orientated search engines and databases as well as a content management system.
-Excellent communication skills both verbally and written using discretion, accuracy, and clarity.
-Ability to work occasional overtime when needed for conferences and to meet deadlines.
