Description

Geological Engineering is an interdisciplinary program within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The faculty includes professionals from the College of Engineering and the College of Letters and Science. Geological Engineering integrates two disciplinesgeology and engineering. Geologists study the earth, with a focus on its origins, composition, and evolution. Engineers apply scientific principles to practical ends, such as the design and construction of facilities for practical use by society. Geological engineers find the best ways to use the earth’s resources to solve technical problems while protecting the environment

Work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff to support the strategic objectives of the Geological Engineering program within the College of Engineering. The candidate will be mentored in a variety of professional areas including strategic communication of science-and technology-related information and graphic design, along with digital marketing strategy, development and implementation. Much of the work requires working independently and efficiently. In-person meetings and worktime will be scheduled around your class schedule each semester, and much of your work can be completed remotely.

Potential Duties:

  • Design compelling visual assets to inform, educate, inspire or persuade targeted audiences such as prospective students, parents and alumni
  • Contribute to the planning, development and distribution of internal and external communications
  • Contribute to the development and design of marketing materials and presentations
  • Contribute to the development of marketing strategies, plans, projects and campaigns
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the program’s social media strategy
  • Develop and implement social media metrics tracking and reporting mechanisms
  • Edit, revise and proofread materials
  • Assist with content development and website updates
  • Help with event planning and management

Special Project examples (likely one per semester, and subject to change if priorities shift):

  • Develop and implement the Geological Engineering 2022 Digital Media Strategy and editorial calendar, including setting up social media metrics tracking and reporting mechanisms
  • Use data to develop a marketing campaign targeting prospective students in fields related to the program’s research focus areas (the marketing campaign may include working with a video production vendor to create an informational motion graphics video)
  • Develop and launch a new program to support faculty in the communication of their ideas and research
  • Conceptualize, plan, develop content for and create materials needed to execute a 2023 GLE Alumni Conference market campaign
  • Support individual research focus areas or centers of excellence with marketing and communications strategy development, planning and implementation
