Civic Media is building a state-wide network of radio stations in Wisconsin. We’re Civic Media is building a state-wide media network in Wisconsin with the goal of championing the practice of democracy by empowering honest and informative local voices. We’re merging the legacy of radio with the immediacy of digital to deliver high-quality content to a growing audience via our 20 radio stations, our websites, our mobile app and associated social media platforms. We work in a fast-paced environment that values communication, integrity, vision, innovation and collaboration in order to fulfill our vision of being the media platform that informs, guides and inspires our audience through the complex landscape of information, commentary and civic engagement.

Internship Overview:

The internship is open to students majoring in journalism, communications or other media-related fields who understand how original content can be used to audiences and convert them into followers and fans. The right candidate for this internship knows the nuances, potential and limitations of all major digital media channels, including social media and long form content, and is eager to experiment with different types of approaches to achieve measurable results. The goal of this internship is to provide the intern with an opportunity to develop their creative and critical thinking skills, get comfortable with iterative methods of experimentation, and work as part of a team to help fulfill the organization’s stated mission, vision and goals. The right candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be open to continued improvement based on feedback from the people they’ll work with.

Key Responsibilities:

● For roughly 50% of the time, the intern will be expected to:
○ Produce social media posts consisting of images and text promoting something for the network, a radio station or a show or podcast as determined by editorial and content priorities under the direction of a member of the marketing team

○ Track key performance indicators such as follows, views and engagement for the posts they produce

●  For roughly 40% of the time, the intern will be expected to:

    • Assist in copy editing, data entry and other related tasks as deemed necessary by team leadership
    • Assist with market research projects such as surveys, focus groups, etc. and help document results, best practices and recommendations to help institutionalize findings

●For roughly 10% of the time, the intern will be encouraged to spend time working on or investigating any aspect of the network’s operations that are of interest to them and their future career prospects

Qualifications:

●  Candidate for a degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications or related field.

●  Posses a positive attitude

●  Intellectual curiosity

●  Interest in working with media personalities

●  Interest in mission-driven work

Pay:

●  $15/hr for 10 (min.) to 20 (max.) hours per week
