At the Center for Healthy Minds (CHM), our mission is to cultivate well-being and relieve suffering through a scientific understanding of the mind. CHM is a leader in conducting science – both in and out of the lab – on how to nurture emotional well-being in daily life across the lifespan.

If you’re an energetic, detail-driven, self-starter with donor relations and event coordination experience and a passion for communicating, consider applying for this role on our small team and help shape the future of CHM’s donor stewardship and communications area.

The Development & Communications Specialist will work closely with the Director of Communications & Marketing and Directors of Development to identify and implement annual donor engagement goals, themes and event strategies supporting research, innovations and programs, and building CHM’s donor base.

Clear and compassionate communication with a wide variety of stakeholders from various backgrounds is important to this role. You will communicate to donors directly and indirectly through gift acknowledgement, events, newsletters, invites and appeals, contributing to Center-wide goals related to reach, diversity, inclusion and philanthropic impact. Your daily interactions may also involve members of CHM’s programming, research and operations teams, as well as external partners and vendors (including the affiliated non-profit Healthy Minds Innovations and Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association).

Your attention to detail and project management skills will help you plan, execute, maintain and analyze communications, donor stewardship events, databases and lists, using project management software and other software solutions. In addition, you’ll provide support to the marketing and communications team, collaborating on budgeting, billing reconciliation, vendor relations and more.

You’ll balance collaborative work with independently managing priorities and tasks to move work forward and will have the opportunity to collaborate on assessing existing processes and proposing solutions, as we embark on updates to modernize and improve efficiency. As a CHM brand ambassador, you will help maintain quality and integrity of brand image and voice across communications.

Our work is fast-paced, exciting and challenging, as research, innovation and global impact involve a broad spectrum of work, unexpected opportunities and shifting priorities.

Your ability to jump in, learn, communicate, collaborate and prioritize will help you thrive in this role. As we support CHM’s vision of a kinder, wiser, more compassionate world, we too wish to embody these qualities in our work environment and support of one another. We do this with a balance of flexible work environment and community time, training offerings and the opportunity to contribute to unique, impactful work.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for Healthy Minds (CHM) is a leader in conducting science – in and out of the lab – on how to nurture emotional well-being in daily life considering the complexity of our human experience (age, gender, ability, race etc). Because inequities in science and academia disproportionately harm the most marginalized members of our society – including people of color, people from poor and working-class backgrounds, people with disabilities, women, and LGBTQ+ people, we believe that these identities must be centered in the work of our center. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized groups.
