Job Title: Development Events and Communications Associate

Position: Full-time, 40 hours weekly, occasional evening & weekend hours

Classification: Non- Exempt

Location: 425 Building/ Partially Remote

Mission: The Women’s Center is committed to providing safety, shelter and support to empower all impacted by domestic abuse, sexual violence, child abuse, and trafficking.

Summary/ Objective: The Development Events & Communications Associate plays a vital role in the planning, organizing, and implementing fundraising efforts. Responsible for providing support and assistance for fundraising functions, including but not limited to special event coordination and assisting in crafting fundraising and marketing messaging for The Women’s Center. This position will also assume responsibility for social media marketing and design of agency publication materials.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Serve as the main point of contact for inquiries to the Development & Communications Department, fielding calls transferred from the front desk and facilitating donations over the phone.
• Serve as agency point person for third-party events, fundraisers, and donation drives.
• Coordinate the Pathway to Peace monthly giving program, communicating with donors to renew memberships, provide member benefits.
• Help coordinate year-end appeal solicitation process, working with the Development Data Coordinator and Development Manager. Crafting first drafts of fundraising appeals and supporting materials.
• Review the donor listing for the annual report, correct donor listings as needed, and work with the entire Department to confirm accuracy.
• Manage or support our three annual fundraising events (The EmPower Luncheon in April and our Noteworthy Evening in Fall) as assigned, including but not limited to: sponsor solicitation, registration, recruitment, and logistics, providing onsite coordination during events.
• Secure and manage in-kind donations for event auctions/raffle.
• Coordinate administrative details associated with donor solicitations and bulk mailings. Prepare media materials for distribution (i.e., copying, filing, mailing, emailing).
• Craft messaging and images for all Women’s Center social media platforms.
• Manage the social media calendar with the Development Manager.
• Maintain an atmosphere of safety and confidentiality.
• Complete forms in accordance with agency procedures.
• Ensure organizational compliance with all appropriate local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
• Ensure the completion of all required documentation, etc. in a timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations. Ensure the maintenance of departmental housekeeping standards.
• Ensure confidentiality of all donors and any clients utilizing services.
• Completes other duties as needed and/or requested by supervisor to align with the mission and vision of the organization.

Knowledge, Skills:

• Strong organizational and excellent writing and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects at once.
• Ability to craft compelling solicitation letters, marketing materials and social media messaging.
• Knowledge of creating and executing large fundraising events from inception to completion. Working both independently and as part of a larger team.
• Skilled in dealing with multiple projects running simultaneously.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, notably Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Effective time management skills.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability and willingness to collaborate with community members, businesses, and other staff.
• Ability to think critically, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.


• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in nonprofit fundraising, marketing, or events.
• An understanding of how large-scale fundraising events work and are run.
• Previous experience writing donor solicitations and marketing materials.
• Strong knowledge of mainstream social media platforms and how to write and design for them to best engage our followers.
• A combination of professional experience and education will be considered instead of a college degree.
• Experience with Raiser’s Edge, including Online Express and RE NXT, preferred.

Language Skills:

• Ability to read, write and comprehend English.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Requires a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license and proof of insurance.

• This is largely a sedentary role.
• The ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Movement between various buildings.
• Works predominantly indoors but may travel between different buildings.
• Ability to ambulate up and downstairs.
• This position may work remotely but at certain times of the year (before and after events) will be required to be more office-based.

Work-related travel is occasionally required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
