Freelance Writer

We are looking for motivated Freelance Writers to join our UMOJA Magazine Freelance Writer pool. In this position writers will discuss issues and events in Wisconsin that support cultural diversity. Duties of a Freelance Writer include attending and reporting on local events within Madison and writing profile stories on members in the community. The ideal candidate should be able to write in AP Style and meet deadlines. If you have previous experience in reporting on community events, writing profile stories or just received a journalism degree and ready to put your writing skills to use, we’d like to meet you. Ultimately, a successful Freelance Writer will be able to consistently write articles for UMOJA Magazine monthly whether it be a profile story or on an event.

Responsibilities:

• Receive article topics from our Publisher/Editor.
• Research the topic.
• Write a draft of the article to submit.
• Fix any major issues if necessary.
• Provide art and/or photos to go with article.
