Description

Health Access Connect links Ugandans living in remote areas with healthcare resources. The organization hosts monthly, 1-day health clinics in remote villages of Uganda that allow people to access essential health services like anti-retroviral treatment, malaria treatment, child checkups, and family planning.

Health Access Connect offers two virtual internships:

1. Communications & Development Virtual Intern
2. Monitoring & Evaluation Virtual Intern

The Communications & Development Intern will be responsible for engaging with many of HAC’s stakeholders while building and maintaining good relationships. Ensuring necessary follow up, sharing updates on activities, and remaining connected through social media will be important in this role. In addition, they will gain experience with grant writing. This is a remote internship in which you will be collaborating with a multinational team working from the USA and Uganda.

The Communications & Development Intern will assist with the following:

COMMUNICATIONS
-Sending out monthly newsletter
-Keeping blog updated with HAC activities
-Posting on social media at least twice a week
-Updating website (WordPress)

DEVELOPMENT
-Composing and submitting grant proposals
-Personalized thank yous for donors
-Using media list to reach out to contacts
-Setting up networking meetings and events based on contact lists
-Keeping Salesforce database updated with leads and opportunities
-Emailing organizers to set up events
-Preparing presentations for particular audiences

The Monitoring & Evaluation Intern will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and distributing data from patient surveys, outreach clinic reporting, and other data sources to be utilized to understand and improve our projects. They will also comparatively analyze internally collected health service data with data from Ugandan national sources. This is a remote internship in which you will be collaborating with a multinational team working from the USA and Uganda.

The Monitoring & Evaluation Virtual Intern will assist with the following:

DATA COLLECTION
-Working to improve data collection tools used in the health facilities and communities where we operate
-Exporting data from external sources (i.e. Ministry of Health) in order to conduct comparative analysis between organizational and national data
-Working to improve data reporting methods to optimize data quality and validity

ANALYSIS & DISTRIBUTION
-Creating dashboards in Google Data Studio with data visualizations
-Creating data visualisations for purposes such as: public distribution, internal use, grants, communications
-Analyzing data to make propositions on next steps and solutions to challenges
-Working to improve methods of analysis and distribution of information

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Continuing UW-Madison student, sophomore status or higher
-Quantitative Research Skills (Evaluation & Operations Interns)
-Good oral and written communication skills
-Qualitative Research Skills (Evaluation & Operations Interns)
-Strong analytical skills (Evaluation Intern)
-Willingness to work in a team environment
-Interest in public health and international development
-Good academic and disciplinary standing
-Good interpersonal skills to work well with others in different cultures and languages
-Interest in the region & culture of internship location
-Resiliency & high level of maturity and ability to thrive in new and sometimes difficult situations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Website experience, especially WordPress (Media Intern)
-Grantwriting interest or experience (Media Intern)
-Positive attitude

-Basic knowledge of statistics (Evaluation Intern)
-Graphic design experience (Media Intern)
-Social media and web marketing experience (Media & Operations Interns)
-Prior experience internationally and/or domestically on projects related to health or development
-Basic knowledge of data analysis (Operations Intern)
