MediaWise is looking for a detailed-oriented, mission-driven professional to increase the visibility and awareness of our innovative digital media literacy training by growing relationships with key partners.

MediaWise’s Program Officer will work with community groups and local news publishers across the country to arrange virtual and in-person trainings and meetings, manage content or licensing partnerships and create communication workflows with our growing team. The program officer will also manage MediaWise’s successful Ambassador program, a group of 25 influencers and journalists who support and promote the work we do.

Here’s why this job matters.

MediaWise empowers people of all ages to become more critical consumers of content online. We teach people digital media literacy and fact-checking skills to spot misinformation and disinformation on the internet with a focus on social media. Our innovative, digital-first program works constantly to address the ever-changing landscape of misinformation across the internet.

Since launching in 2018, we’ve found that the best and most effective way to get our teaching into the hands of citizens is through partnerships with key stakeholders in local communities.

We are particularly interested in partnerships that reach underserved communities or communities more at risk to fall for mis- or disinformation. With the launch of MediaWise en Español earlier this year, MediaWise is committed to working with Spanish-speaking communities when possible.

The ideal candidate is a quick learner and strong communicator who feels comfortable keeping others on a schedule, and most importantly, someone who believes in our mission.

This job will start as a 1-year position with the opportunity to extend based on funding. Ideally, we’d like someone who can work in our offices in St. Petersburg, Fla., though we’d explore a remote arrangement under the right circumstances.

MediaWise is committed to diversity and an inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds. We especially encourage members of traditionally underrepresented communities to apply for this position. Working proficiency in a language other than English is also a plus, with preference for Spanish.

The MediaWise team is on a mission to teach millions of people around the world how to find reliable information online. We believe that when facts prevail, democracy wins. MediaWise is part of the nonprofit The Poynter Institute of Media Studies, which is also home to PolitiFact and the International Fact Checking Network.
