Established in Madrid in 2009, Meninas Cartoneras is a non-profit, independent publishing house. Meninas Cartoneras’ books are hand-made from recycled materials collected off the streets to promote literacy accessibility, social action, creativity, editorial experimentation and environmental sustainability. Meninas Cartoneras’ has produced a growing collection of over 4,000 texts by diverse authors from all literacy genres. They also host workshops for children, adults, and at-risk groups and are involved in various socio-cultural projects.
The intern will work as the community manager in charge of the organization’s website and social media.
Main duties may include:
-Assist in maintaining the organization’s website (using WordPress)
-Maintaining the blog
-Increase public awareness of the organization using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tuenti, etc.)
-Writing and editing texts in Spanish and English
-Revising the book catalog
-Collaborating with projects with the Women in Translation group
-Assist with identifying grants and grant writing
