Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
PEOPLE digital is looking for a writer-reporter who will work on a Thursday-Monday shift with the primary goal of providing extra writing support for the weekend team. This person will be also a key member of an international news team dedicated to covering the news and increasing content output for the site on the weekends. The shift will be standard daytime business hours. During the weekdays that the writer-reporter is on, they will contribute to a team dedicated to writing newsy, but informative content that has impeccable SEO, intended to reach an intent-driven search audience. People as a brand covers 16 different content areas, so the writer needs to be comfortable writing everything from crime, human interest, and political stories, to entertainment, royals and lifestyle content. This is a fast-paced newsroom, so speed is essential, and an ability to handle a volume of 5-7 stories a day, while still delivering everything clean, sharp, and accurate.
Essential Job Functions
Weight % – Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results
70% – Write news stories on deadline during the weekends and evergreen posts on weekdays
20% – Report stories, conduct interviews
10% – Pitch content
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education: BA or BS
Experience: 2 years of experience writing for a high volume, digital news operation.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to work independently.
• Strong writing skills, impeccable journalistic standards, and attention to detail.
• Ability to respond quickly to breaking news.
• Strong basic reporting abilities.
