The Invention of Journalism Ethics: The Path to Objectivity and Beyond McGill

Professor Stephen Ward
Queen’s University Press, 2005

The book is a systematic history of the origin of journalism and how it changed over the centuries. The book also traces the origins and history of journalism objectivity. The book constructs a new notion of objectivity for journalism, called pragmatic objectivity, which is a more adequate guide for journalism in a multi-media era.

The book won the 2005–2006 Harold Adams Innis Prize for the best English-language book in Canada in the social sciences, from the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Ottawa.
