The Wisconsin Idea Seminar team is seeking a communications intern!

Our communications intern will hone their writing and image-making skills and meet folks across the state who are making a difference in their communities.

The Wisconsin Idea Seminar Communications Internship offers the opportunity to:
• interact and collaborate with UW-Madison faculty, staff, and students, and state-wide community members;
• take initiative on content creation in consultation with Seminar director and others;
• hone communication skills for a variety of audiences;
• get experience planning and developing complex events and programs;
• learn about Wisconsin and its history, people, languages, cultures, and economy.

Dates of Internship:
Beginning in January, 2019. Hours offered during academic breaks (winter, spring, summer), negotiable based on availability and intern interest.
Successful candidate must commit to being available to accompany and support the administrative team during the Wisconsin Idea Seminar (May 13-May 17, 2019, 4 overnight stays required).
Preference given to students who can continue the internship through Spring, 2019 and into Summer, 2019, and possibly beyond.

• Write content, profiles, and feature stories for Wisconsin Idea Seminar website, newsletter, and other media outlets.
• Create content for Instagram.
• Edit and implement social media plan with Director.
• Explore new ways to creatively use social media and other media to successfully promote and celebrate Wisconsin Idea Seminar programming.
• Attend site visits and the Wisconsin Idea Seminar to capture social media posts in real-time.
• Assist with website updates and editing.
• Interact and collaborate with UW-Madison faculty, staff, and students, and state-wide community members.
• Assist with general office tasks.
• Assist in development and curation of Wisconsin Idea Seminar archive (three decades of documents, photographs, travel literature and ephemera)

Applicants must be UW-Madison students in good standing, making normal progress toward a degree.

Required Qualifications:
• Ability to conduct interviews and research and synthesize the information into timely, well-crafted content.
• Hands-on experience using Instagram (ideally beyond personal use).
• Hands-on experience with WordPress.
• Hands-on experience with graphic design software (preferably Adobe Suite).
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
• Photography skills.
• Organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to learn new skills.
• Ability to manage confidential information.
• Enthusiasm for Wisconsin history, culture, and people.

$10.25 per hour. Possibility for increase pending satisfactory performance and other factors. Opportunity for course credit available.
