The Progressive is proud of its long-running internship program, which has helped launch young writers and editors who go on to work with diverse organizations all over the country. Our graduates work for The Wall Street Journal, The Nation, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Capital Times, and Center for Popular Democracy among other establishments.
Our Madison-based team produces both The Progressive magazine (a 110-year-old nationally-read print publication) and our website, offering several news and analysis pieces posted daily to over 200,000 visitors a month. This work, plus our Public School Shakedown and Progressive Media Project, offer many opportunities for creative and motivated interns. We are looking for candidates interested in current events and progressive politics, with solid clips and references, and able to work both collaboratively and independently. Flexibility and a sense of humor a must.
Do you like to make digital things? We are looking for a digital media intern with experience in graphic design, data visualization, graphic storytelling, video, or infographics to work with the editors in creating and posting original content. Opportunities include: authoring original digital content for our nation-wide website and social media, researching and experimenting with social media and audience engagement strategies, creating art for our online stories, attending editorial meetings, and working with writers and our New-York-based Art Director to create content.
Useful Skills: Visual and text-based storytelling, infographic or video design and production, image editing, social media literacy, strong writing skills, and comfort working with websites.
