The Facebook Journalism Project and Reynolds Journalism Institute have recently opened applications for the Instagram Local News Fellowship.
What is the Instagram Local News Fellowship?
The Instagram Local News Fellowship started as a pilot program last summer, when our first class of fellows spent 10 weeks in three newsrooms — The Boston Globe, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and The Saint Louis Post-Dispatch — with exceptional results.
This year, awarded fellows will be placed in up to 20 newsrooms across the U.S. and will serve as Instagram editors for the summer, working with the newsrooms to reach new audiences and innovate their strategy on the platform.
What will I get out of the program?
Fellows will receive invaluable hands-on experience as they develop and implement an Instagram strategy that supports each publisher’s business goals. In addition, newsroom leaders will mentor each student and share knowledge from their years of journalism experience.
Fellows will also receive an $8,000 stipend which they may use for their work, housing, and travel.
How long will the program last?
The fellowship will run from June 8, 2020 to August 14, 2020 and before the program starts, Instagram will host a training program at our New York headquarters from June 2-3, 2020.
When will selected fellows be announced?
Fellows will be announced the week of March 23rd, 2020.
Where can I apply and what’s the deadline?
Interested college seniors and recent journalism graduates can submit their application here.
Application Deadline—March 6, 2020.
