Isthmus is now accepting applications for its 2020 spring news internship. The position involves 10 to 15 hours per week, reporting and writing news articles.
The job primarily involves writing one news article a week for Isthmus’ website while working on a few longer, in-depth stories for the print edition. Hours are flexible, but deadlines are firm. Start and end dates are flexible. Applicants should have reporting experience and a strong interest in local issues. Most stories are assigned, but interns are expected to generate story ideas and contacts. A familiarity with local government is useful. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply. Interns are compensated at a freelance rate for both print and online articles. The internship provides valuable experience in media and an opportunity to learn narrative journalism and write about a variety of topics for a wide audience.
To apply, send a cover letter, resume and up to five clips to: Joe Tarr, news editor, Isthmus, 100 State St. Suite 301 Madison, WI 53703 or via email to email@example.com.
Application Deadline—November 22, 2019.
