Brian Ekdale

Assistant Professor, University of Iowa

Brian Ekdale received his Ph.D. from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2011, and is now an assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa. His research, which emphasizes ethnographic and critical approaches to digital media, international mass communication, and media production, focuses on individuals and groups that create content as well as the contextual and structural factors that determine media production practices. His work has been published in New Media & Society, Information, Communication & Society, and Africa Today. He also has professional experience as a director and editor of documentary and non-profit videos.
