Silke Schmidt is a science writer for UW–Madison’s College of Engineering. Originally from Germany, Silke was a biomedical research professor at Duke University before she changed careers and earned her professional M.A. in journalism in 2016. By interviewing engineers from a variety of departments, Silke continues to keep up with medical research—and even her original training in biostatistics comes in handy at times—but the best thing about her job is learning something new every week. If you’re thinking of moving from science to science writing, feel free to contact Silke.
