Alexus Moore is a PhD candidate currently conducting research from her home state of Maryland. She is exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, health communication, and public perception. Her work investigates how AI-generated messages are received, interpreted, and acted upon, with the goal of shaping more effective and ethically responsible communication strategies in this digital age.

Her dissertation research examines audience responses to AI-generated health messaging through three complementary studies. In 2024, she conducted a pilot experiment testing how people evaluated AI-generated visual health messages across hydration, physical activity, and smoking cessation. Findings revealed nuanced perceptions: while participants found the messages novel and moderately effective, they questioned their credibility and memorability, especially when primed to consider AI involvement.

Building on these insights, she is now conducting a digital ethnography of Reddit to explore how people naturally discuss, critique, and make sense of AI-generated content in online communities. This work highlights the cultural narratives, emotions, and conversational norms shaping public attitudes toward AI in everyday contexts.

The final stage of her research involves a large-scale experimental survey to test how different disclosure styles (such as labeling messages as “AI-generated,” “researcher-generated,” or collaborative) will shape perceptions of credibility, effectiveness, and intentions to adopt health behaviors. Grounded in the Heuristic-Systematic Model (HSM), the Integrated Behavioral Model (IBM), and the Limited Capacity Model of Motivated Mediated Message Processing (LC4MP), this study seeks to clarify how AI disclosure influences trust, persuasion, and behavioral outcomes.

In her free time, Alexus loves to travel, and has been to various places throughout Europe, Japan, Peru and Thailand. She also enjoys hiking, photography, and reading romantasy and mystery novels.
