Chelsey Sarante is a doctoral student here at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where her research examines how skin complexion shapes racial identity within marginalized groups. She earned her M.A. in Communication from The Ohio State University, where her thesis focused on the impact of skin complexion on racial identity, and she also holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Black Studies and Communication from Denison University. At Ohio State, Chelsey served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and taught courses on persuasive communication, sports and media, crisis communication and media violence. Her professional experience spans project management and communications roles in nonprofit, corporate and community-based organizations, with a focus on social justice, representation and storytelling.
