Business Development Associate

Location(s): Kingston, NY or remote in New York State

Duration: 3-6 months

Hours: Flexible. 15-18 hours a week for full time students. Eligible interns not taking classes can work up to 40 hours per week.

Compensation: $22 – $25/hour

The Organization

Mid-Hudson Energy Transition, Inc. (MHET) is a not-for-profit community-based organization that empowers municipalities, their residents, and businesses to own and share renewable energy, create healthier buildings, and join in community wealth-building to strengthen the resilience of the Hudson Valley in the face of climate change. We engage and build on the active involvement of communities, with particular emphasis on low-income and communities of color that are being harmed first and worst by climate change.

The Clean Energy Internship
The Business Development Associate will support business development and fundraising activities for community-oriented clean energy projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of energy democracy, energy justice, and environmental issues facing low-income and BIPOC communities, as well as excellent persuasive writing skills and the ability to analyze complex information.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of a database of funders and grants, researching and identifying opportunities for funding from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

  • Assist in the implementation MHET’s fundraising plans, developing marketing materials, coordinating logistics, managing outreach and follow-up.

  • Assist in grant writing and grant proposals, ensuring that all proposals are well-written, clear, and compelling, and align with MHET’s mission and goals.

  • Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and ensure timely submission of all required documents.

  • Synthesize and analyze complex information, including energy and environmental data, to create compelling reports and presentations for funders and partners.

  • Help cultivate relationships with current and prospective donors through regular communication, including phone calls, emails, and acknowledgement letters.

  • Collaborate with the communications team to develop and implement strategies to raise awareness of MHET’s mission and initiatives.

  • Help manage the organization’s social media presence related to fundraising activities.

  • Provide administrative support for fundraising activities, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and taking minutes.

  • Update and maintain donor databases with accurate and current information.

  • Track donations and generate reports on fundraising progress and donor engagement metrics.

  • Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improving fundraising efforts.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Strong persuasive writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and compelling proposals and reports and strong design skills with the ability to create visually appealing and effective presentations that communicate complex ideas.

  • Passion for environmental justice and a strong understanding of environmental and energy issues facing low-income and BIPOC communities and the root causes.

  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to analyze and interpret financial and environmental data.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.

To be eligible for the program, you must qualify as at least one of the following:

  • An individual currently attending or who attended a degree program at a college or university, located in New York State within the within the last 12 months as of the date of the intern application.
  • A current New York State resident attending or who attended a college or university outside of New York State within the last 12 months as of the date of the intern application. New York State residency, with proof of residency such as rental agreement or utility bills, must have been established prior to the start of the internship.
  • New York State residents who are members of a disadvantaged community and/or Priority Population.
