Description

We are looking for a full-time Communications Specialist who will guide our communications efforts including: graphic design, content curation and design in print and digital media, photo and video coordination, and website and social media management. Our nonprofit is small and the position will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with the rest of the team to both create and support team objectives including communications as well as events throughout the year. The work will have a significant impact on the communities that Reflo partners with. Some of the work products will include conceptual plan documents, outreach materials for our high school internship program, supporting a 500-person annual event for the green and healthy schools community, developing program guides for our Outdoor Discovery Carts and many more.

Because of the breadth of the work, the Reflo team will work with candidates to interpret the position to best fit candidates strengths and balance workloads across the team. No one candidate is expected to be an expert in every area identified, the following list is more simply a listing of where we have communication needs and would like candidates to respond to where they could support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Design a wide variety of marketing, special event, and educational collateral including, but not limited to: multi-page technical and non-technical documents, graphic summaries, annual reports, thank-you cards, signs and handouts for events, project educational signage, lesson plan documents, and fundraising campaign materials
• Manage website content and design to ensure delivery of clear and creative content on the Reflo, Green Schools Consortium of Milwaukee, and Environmental Youth Collaborative websites
• Develop a feasible strategic plan for social media platforms and work with the team to coordinate/collect/develop content/stories and monitor and update as needed
• Support email campaigns and listserv via Mailchimp
• Coordinate and take project and event photography and videography
• Edit and coordinate photo and video productions
• Write, edit, and review press releases and copy for print and digital content
• Provide support for regularly scheduled meetings and special events
• Support fundraising and donor campaigns
• Work closely with and coordinate meetings, schedules, and work products with/for our projects assistant/digital media specialist
• Collaborate with Reflo team members on creative design
• Communicate proactively with the rest of the Reflo team to prioritize activities and keep deliverables on schedule
• Prioritizes and manages the quality, efficiency, and look and feel of projects created
• Communicates with the Executive Director, Operations Manager, and other staff on the status of projects and participates in weekly team meetings

Other Project and Programmatic Initiatives:
• Reports directly to the executive director and works cooperatively with staff and project stakeholders
• Develops the skills and tools necessary to effectively reach communication objectives
• Supports the executive director and project and program managers in various functions including drafting and reviewing reports, attending meetings and providing insights, preparing meeting handouts, creating draft and final graphics, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders around communication-related activities
• Works with other staff to support project events and outreach activities as needed
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• 4+ years of professional experience in communications
• Bachelor’s in marketing, graphic design, or communications-related degree
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
• Familiarity with video editing
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, regular use of a car, current auto insurance, and the ability to travel throughout the Milwaukee area
• The majority of the work for this position is anticipated to be indoors, in an office-type setting; however, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs to assist with projects that are occasionally outside throughout the year is also required

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of project stakeholders and collaborate with project partners
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to represent Reflo in a professional and appropriate manner to a wide range of project partners
• Ability to participate in infrequent evening and weekend activities, when scheduled
• Ability to work in a small team setting with varying degrees of supervision
• Experience in a nonprofit setting preferred, but not required

Compensation:
• $52,000+ / year – based on experience
• 10 days of paid vacation and 10 paid holidays
• 401(k) after 1 month of full-time employment with 401(k) matching
