Description

The mission of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is to conserve the lands and waters upon which all life depends. As a science-based organization, we develop innovative, on-the-ground solutions to the world’s toughest environmental challenges so that people and nature can thrive. Our work is guided by our values, which include a commitment to diversity and respect for people, communities, and cultures. From a rewarding mission to career development and flexible schedules, there are many reasons to love life #insideTNC. Want to know more? Check out our TNC Talent playlist on YouTube to hear stories from staff or visit Glassdoor.

One of TNC’s primary goals is to cultivate an inclusive work environment so that employees around the globe have a sense of belonging and feel that their unique contributions are valued. We know we’ll only achieve our mission by hiring and engaging a diverse staff that reflects the communities in which we work. Recognizing that people bring talent and skills that have been developed outside the scope of a job, we take a holistic approach to recruitment that considers life experience in addition to the professional requirements listed in our postings. Please apply – we’d love to hear from you. To quote a popular saying at TNC, “you’ll join for the mission, and you’ll stay for the people.”

The Conservation Communications & Partner Engagement Fellow (Fellow) will help advance communications and engagement for two partnership projects in Wisconsin – the East River Collaborative (ERC) and the Southern Driftless Grasslands (SDG) partnership. The East River Collaborative brings together a wide range of stakeholders to share expertise, build strategies, and develop projects to improve flood resilience, water quality, and wildlife habitat within the East River Watershed in Northeast Wisconsin. ERC participants include municipal staff, elected officials, representatives of county, state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, researchers and more. The Southern Driftless Grasslands partnership supports the conservation of grasslands within Southwest Wisconsin to benefit the region’s wildlife, water, farms, and communities. Like the ERC, the SDG engages non-profit, regional, and county, state and federal government partners to achieve their mission.

This fellow may assist the East River Collaborative partnership in the following ways:
• Provide support for the ERC core team through scheduling, agenda preparation, note taking, etc.
• Manage the ERC listserv and communications with ERC stakeholders. This may include drafting newsletters, updating website content, and preparing factsheets or other outreach materials.
• Work with the ERC core team on communications and outreach directly related to the development of an implementation plan for the East River. This may include scheduling and coordinating meetings for stakeholders and/or the public to provide input on flood resiliency projects within the watershed.
• Provide support for learning exchange events including a field day in the East River Watershed, a two-day workshop in Milwaukee, and a webinar to learn about efforts taking place in the City of Dubuque, Iowa.
• Help coordinate the ERC’s annual winter forum, a half-day virtual meeting for the partnership. This may include co-creating the agenda, reaching out to potential speakers, and event support among other tasks.
• Support engagement and communications with underserved communities within the East River Watershed being led by the University of Wisconsin Extension and Wello, a community-based well-being organization.
• This fellow may support the Southern Driftless Grasslands partnership in the following ways:
• Assist the newly formed SDG communications and outreach team with goal setting, work-planning, and project management. This may include scheduling and/or coordinating meetings with SDG staff, working group members, and key external stakeholders.
• Facilitate a series of planning sessions with a core team to identify areas of improvement in current communication efforts, build out SDG’s messaging platform, prioritize landowner outreach strategies, and develop a communications plan framework.
• Collaborate with SDG team members to draft an Outreach & Communications Plan for 2025-2027 that includes short- and long-term goals and measurable deliverables.
• Assist SDG staff with building content for the current roster of outreach events and communications planned for the coming year. Support may include drafting presentation slides, activity planning, or other event-related tasks.
• Manage and deliver SDG news, special events, project opportunities, and other content via website and social media engagement platforms to raise awareness and broaden brand recognition for the partnership.
• Prepare a communications toolkit for SDG partners and other key stakeholders with a set of materials designed to support consistent and effective messaging, reach core audiences, and help raise funds for SDG initiatives.
