The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) is a research center in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at UW–Madison. WIPAC specializes in physics and astronomy research, with responsibility for the IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole. WIPAC also leads and participates in several other research collaborations, both nationally and internationally. The communications team is responsible for addressing the communications needs of WIPAC and the IceCube Collaboration, including promoting the physical sciences to the general public, interfacing with public relations, creating content for education and outreach activities, and developing and publishing digital content.

The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center seeks a student employee to assist with graphic design tasks. The work includes editing and developing visual graphics for use in web, social media, video, and print sources, and supporting the communications and education & outreach teams in upcoming events, including outreach activities and scientific presentations.

Tasks will include:
• creating, designing, and producing graphic artwork through various media for web, social media, video, and print sources for WIPAC and IceCube
• assisting with identifying cost-effective options to meet project requirements
• working collaboratively with other creative professionals
• following established work processes to manage project workflow and maintain files
• assisting with education and outreach activities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required:
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat)
• Ability to use Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
• Evidence of excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Basic design and production skills
Preferred:
• Ability to work productively, both in a team and independently
• Ability to organize, multitask, and meet distinct deadlines while expressing a high degree of creativity
• Ability to follow directions and learn new software programs

Qualifications: Applicants must be current UW-Madison students with an anticipated graduation date of 2026/2027.

All majors are encouraged to apply, but this position would be a good fit for a student majoring in graphic design with an interest in a career in communications or graphic design.

This is expected to continue through the Fall semester but may continue into the Spring 2026 semester depending on need and availability.

This position will primarily be in-person at our 222 W. Washington Avenue office. There may be limited opportunities to work remotely. 8-24 hours per week expected. Flexible schedule, Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:30pm.
