Description
The Transmitter is seeking a science reporting fellow to report and write news articles for the The Transmitter site. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career science journalist to cover the fast-moving field of neuroscience. This paid fellowship is full-time (40 hours per week) and is expected to start in January 2025 and will last 6 months. The fellowship will take place in-person at the Simons Foundation’s New York City office. We strongly encourage applicants from backgrounds that are underrepresented in science and science journalism.
The Transmitter offers up-to-date news and analysis of neuroscience, written by journalists and scientists.
You will report and write articles that educate, challenge and inspire our audience of scientists, and you’ll leave with a collection of great clips. A background or strong interest in neuroscience, genetics, cognition and behavior is essential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Pitch, report and write news articles and at least one longform story for the The Transmitter site
• Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
• Bachelor’s degree
• Graduate science journalism degree or equivalent experience preferred
Experience
• A background or strong interest in neuroscience, genetics, cognition and behavior
• 6 months to 3 years of professional journalism experience

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
