David graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Suma Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987. While at the UW, he was appointed to the Iron Shield Society, the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society, and also was named the Outstanding Junior and Outstanding Senior in the College of Letters & Science.
