Specializations

Develop a reporting specialty with classes outside SJMC

One of the hallmarks of our professional master’s experience involves asking students to go outside the School of Journalism and Mass Communication for at least two of their courses. This allows students to build specialities that are unique to their program proposals and will prepare them for the careers they plan for themselves. Our students tell us they enjoy getting out of our department and learning other disciplines with students from other fields.

While students may choose to find their own options for classes in other schools and departments, here are some examples of coursework our professional master’s students have taken. But you’re not limited to these classes or subject areas — we encourage you to be creative about how you can develop your own reporting specialty and gain additional skills outside our school.
