What if I have questions about the application?
If you have questions, please contact J-School advisor Robert Schwoch at schwoch@wisc.edu.
I am enrolled in J201 now. Can I apply during this semester?
Yes, J201 can be in progress at the time you apply.
I made a mistake! Can I resubmit my online application?
In life, you don’t always get a second chance. Part of evaluating your readiness for the program is looking at your ability to complete tasks accurately in a timely manner. You should wait to submit your application until you are absolutely sure your materials are in order.
We will only accept updated applications under the following circumstance:
Resumes updated with new, relevant jobs and leadership positions attained after you submitted your application.
Changes under this circumstance can only be made before the application deadline. New information after the deadline passes will not be accepted. You must work with the main Journalism office by phone at 608-263-4898 if you need to make a change. If you do not contact our office, only the first application in your name will be evaluated.
When will I be notified of my acceptance or rejection?
All official communication related to the admissions process will be sent to your wisc.edu email address. You will be notified of your acceptance or rejection approximately six weeks after the deadline has passed.
I was accepted. What happens next?
To accept your admission, you will be required to do two things:
Enroll in J202: Mass Communication Practices and J203: Information for Communication. Journalism majors are required to take J202 and J203 in their first term. You cannot defer admission to the school. Enrollment for J202 and J203 opens at the same time for everyone, and details will be included in your acceptance letter.
Attend the SJMC Undergraduate Welcome and Orientation, typically held on Wednesday evening the first week of school.
If I am admitted, which journalism classes can I take next semester?
You must enroll in J202 and J203. If you have junior standing, you also can enroll in theories and topics courses such as J559: Law of Mass Communication or J560: History of Mass Communication.
If I am not accepted, can I apply again?
Yes, you may reapply as many times as you wish.
