Description
We’re so thrilled you’re interested in a journalism fellowship with LAUREL.
LAUREL will be a go-to hub for modern women with a life-altering cancer diagnosis. We will provide calming, well-supported what-to-expect guides; interviews with doctors, medical experts, and scientists; beautiful and curated gift ideas; and honest, spirited advice and essays.
This is a writing-heavy position. This role will take on many assignments, but there is an opportunity to pitch as well. We’ll provide instruction about how to find sources, how to shape complex subjects into a digestible format, and how to carefully and kindly interview people about sensitive subjects.
LAUREL promises clear, engaging, graceful, and trustworthy writing. Because of the subject matter, we’re looking for a journalist who has a deep sense of sympathy with their reporting and interviewing approach. This is an opportunity to help build a digital media platform from scratch, and a chance to work with our editorial director, Maggie Lange, who writes for The New York Times, The Washington Post, New York Magazine, and others.
We estimate this fellowship will be about 4 days a week and will go from mid-May through September. (Earlier start availability welcome!) Candidates can work from anywhere, on any schedule, as long as they meet their deadlines and make availability for regular virtual meetings with our editorial team. For the completion of your work with us this summer, we can offer a stipend of $2500 in installments.
Please send your application by April 30th. We will consider applications on a rolling basis, so earlier the better.
