Professor Katy Culver Named a 2018 Notable Educator by Crain NewsPro

Professor Katy Culver was named a 2018 “Notable Educator” by Crain NewsPro, an influential and nationally distributed industry publication. Prof. Culver was recognized for her dedication to providing life-changing learning experiences for students that are key to preparing students for careers in professional communication.

Prof. Culver’s teaching excellence has been previously recognized in 2011 with the UW System Alliant Energy Underkofler Award. She has also been a three-time national semi-finalist for the Scripps Foundation Journalism Educator of the Year award. Prof. Culver is also the director of the Center for Journalism Ethics.

Currently, Prof. Culver is studying the ethical implications of data, sensors and drones in journalism, the ethics of public communication beyond journalism, and the rights and responsibilities involved in campus free expression controversies. Culver was the founding education curator for MediaShift, where she helped advance innovation in journalism curricula and courses, and a visiting faculty member for the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.
