The School of Journalism and Mass Communication will return to Union South for the Fall 2023 Communications Majors and Certificates fair. Students will have the opportunity to learn about several majors and certificates available at UW–Madison that are a great fit for people interested in communications, journalism, digital media, public relations and more! The J-School will have information on several of our programs available to students.
Journalism Major: Reporting Track
Journalism majors on the reporting track become prepared for careers in print, broadcast, investigative journalism, magazine writing, editing and so much more! The J-School uses hands-on learning to teach students how to use oral and visual communication skills to tell stories that matter.
Journalism Major: Strategic Communication Track
The strategic communication track teaches students how to become strategic or persuasive on behalf of a client or organization. They will take classes in advertising, public relations, media planning, issue advocacy and more. This track is perfect for students interested in writing and media who want to inform and persuade audiences to take action.
Sports Communication Certificate
The Sports Communication Certificate is a 12-credit program that empowers students to confidently explore careers in sports journalism and sports strategic communication. Students in the program have gone on to pursue careers in sports broadcasting, marketing, public relations and media relations.
Digital Media Analytics Certificate
Fresh to the J-School, the Digital Media Analytics Certificate is a brand new 12-credit program to equip students with skills in data analytics to understand how digital media functions in today’s society. By participating in the certificate, students will apply data science skills to understand how they can be more effective communicators. Focus on converting data to results in a modern media context will provide students with experience that parallels a career in journalism, mass communication and strategic communication.
We look forward to seeing you on October 11, from noon-1:30 p.m. at Union South!
