Description

  • On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, and Tuesday, November 5, 2024, report to the County Elections Office in for your county by 7:45 pm CT.
  • After the polls close, the polling officials will tabulate the results and, several times throughout the night, post or hand you a copy of the unofficial tallies (and possibly absentee ballots if available).
  • We provide you with an AP Ballot worksheet that will list the races and candidates we want the results for.  Using that form, you will transfer the votes over for the corresponding candidates and phone the results into our AP Operator.  You may make calls every 30-45 minutes to update the votes, or it could be one call only once all the results are tallied.
  • Once you have called in the final results for the night, and emailed in the county’s final unofficial totals, your assignment is complete, and you may go home.

Compensation:

  • Compensation depends on location per election, which will be paid via PayPal or Direct Deposit, 7-10 days post-election.

Leading up to election night:

  • You will receive your stringer packet which includes the ballot worksheet, instructions, and AP identification about 7-10 days prior to the election.

Here are some things to consider before deciding that you would like to have the assignment:

  • This is a three-day assignment, April 4, 2024, for the WI Presidential Primary Election,
  • August 13, 2024, for the WI State Primary Election and November 5, 2024, for the WI General Election.
  • You will be sent a link in a few days. You will need to go to the website and fill out the information in order to be paid for your election work.  This form needs to be completed before the election.
  • You MUST be reliable.  It is imperative that we have someone staffing every location we are hiring for.  The AP is responsible for the nation-wide vote count operation and what you see in newspapers and on TV, Internet and Radio, all comes from us, and we have been providing this information to the press since 1848.  Stringers are the most important part of our vote count operation. We need to be certain that you will be at your post on time and reporting the results quickly and accurately.
  • While contracting with the AP, we respectfully request and require that we are notified of any election night work that you have contracted to do with any other media companies or organizations.
  • You must not show partiality during your assignment. No buttons, t-shirts, hats, etc. showing any bias toward a candidate.  Also, no posts/pictures on social media about your position at any time.
