The School of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking a student hourly communications intern for summer 2024, with the possibility of extension into the fall 2024 semester, depending on availability and performance.
The communications intern, under the direction of the communications manager, will assist with various aspects of the department’s marketing and communications strategy, including social media, video, graphic design, content creation, and more.
The successful candidate will work a flexible schedule for up to 20 hours/week during the business hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The pay rate is $15/hour.
Qualifications
This position is open to current SJMC students who have completed J202 and have at least two semesters remaining on the UW campus. Graphic design, social media and web copywriting experience preferred.
Duties
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Developing social media strategy for reaching prospective students on different platforms, with particular attention to Instagram Reels
- Creating posts, videos, graphics, stories, etc. for executing social media strategy
- Assisting with the design and creation of assets for web, email, newsletters and other media’Writing articles for the SJMC website profiling students, faculty, staff and alumni
- Other duties as assigned
